Sarawak and Sabah should take the lead to teach Esperanto
The picture of the kids reminded me of my visit to the land of hornbill 2 decades ago. But the living condition is nothing much changed. Poverty is still dwelling in the community.
They are my brothers and sisters. We are not the same blood clan. We live in the same country but separated by the South China Sea.
Just imagine the future of these kids. They are going to be the leaders of the community and perhaps the leaders of the country. Yes, certainly they will.
But, if Malaysia still insist on passing English subject before the undergraduate can have the degree, more talents will be killed especially these kids from the inner areas of Sarawak and Sabah.
I am not a politician but I am a part of this land. Baru Bian is the politician. He is doing it for his people, the indigenous people . There are many orang asli or indigenous people in the East Malaysia.
Can these parents of the kids afford the high tuition fees for English ? The answer is certainly NO. They can't even fend for the life and do you expect they can provide the cost for the imperial language tuition.
I am glad that at least one of Baru's comrade Tian Chua knew Esperanto when he was in the varsity. Thus Mr Bian should contact Tian Chua to find out what Esperanto is if the web link is insufficient for the purpose.
I do not like to go on to explain what Esperanto is but the article in Malaysiakini should be suffice. Again I like to remind the non Chinese in Malaysia, don't blame Chinese are having better economy position. They are humans too but they are quick to accept new ideas and thus far, there are two Chinese press have published articles about Esperanto but not the Malay and English papers. Why ? Ask the editors of those papers.
Therefore, it is time for my brothers and sisters in the East Malaysia to introduce Esperanto in the schools first before learning English.
If you ask the Malaysians in West Malaysia what is the value of English, they will tell you it is very important and some may even scold you for taking English lightly. They will go on to tell you that English is the language that can propel Malaysia to the moon. But they did not look at China, without English, she has the rocket to meet the Chang Er. The advanced countries are not too far, Japan, Korea. Do these countries place English in a high position ?
Malaysians are stuffed with too many subjects to learn, just the language itself, the Chinese and Indians have to learn 3 languages if they are in the mother tongue schools. Therefore, many Chinese and Indians are sent to national type school which has only English and Malay, as results these kids lost their mother tongue education.
In Sarawak and Sabah, more indigenous people are losing out the mother tongue due to lack of teachers in the rural areas. Now, most Esperantist or Esperanto speakers know that learning Esperanto needs only 10% time compared to English. A 200 hours verses 2000 hours. However the propaeduetics effect which can produce polyglots are killed by English. Even the Britain is learning it, what would the pro English people you like to say about it.
The indigeous esperanto group would also provide another platform for the better communications.

If the Esperantists like to adopt one or two community, you can contact Mr Bian. He has his details in his blog.
I wish to see these kids grow up to serve the country better and of course the world too.
p/s: If you are Esperanto speakers who are donating to the community, please mention the word ESPERANTO. The Esperanto is very unfamiliar to Malaysians. Do not trust the web record or KEAM stat.
