Is English the most difficult language to learn ?

These few days, I am totally in search of the official data of the most difficult language and the easiest language for learning.

I came upon this page and it is true that we have to be more alert when talking about the hardest or easiest language in learning.

Now, I do question Esperanto is the easiest language in the world. I need that evident.

We have to concern who the learner is. For example, Esperanto maybe easy for the European community who speak Latin but may not be easy for me who speak Min Nan Hua, a dialect which has more than 1900 years in Fujian Province, Southern China,

As a researcher, this is the problem that I am facing now.

As so often is the case, the answer to this question lies partly in the eye of the beholder. For somebody from Spain learning Portuguese doesn’t present too many difficulties and lots of learners from the Netherlands find it quite easy to master the English language. As a matter of fact, different language families as well as cultural issues lead to a different approach of learners towards different languages. Due to the similar or identical characters of Japanese and Chinese, the Japanese can easily understand written Chinese. Interestingly, grasping the Chinese pronunciation has turned out to be more of a challenge for Japanese learners. All this shows, that there are many different aspects that need to be taken into account in order to pass a reasonable judgment on the matter. As English is the nearest thing to a world language there are lots of tools and textbooks that facilitate acquisition of the language, by contrast, this is not true for minor languages spoken by a smaller group of people.

When many English speakers or Latin related language speakers vote Japanese is the hardest langauge to learn in the world because of its 3 sets of writing. But at least, one set is easy for me as a Chinese language speakers.

Currently, I could only argue from the data of The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the US Department of State as no other countries reveal the language difficulties in that detail.

Thus, I can only compare Esperanto to the Latin related languages to convince the people that Esperanto is an easy language to learn.

What other benefits that Esperanto can bring in for the learners ?

Please leave your data at the comment area.

Thanks in advanced.

  1. Esperanto is a toy language for English and West Europe speakers, and a difficult, cryptic mess for everyone else in this world.

English speakers are promoting this crap only because they are clueless about any other language in the world.

    1. Watch your language Elhana. If you are not insane, you should know that Esperanto is recommended by UNESCO. You should write to the UNESCO http://www.unesco.org to withdraw the resolution.

It looks like you are more silly then them.
