Response to YouTube video titled : The Universal Language - Why Did It Fail? Part 2

In this modern era, especially the internet age, we do not stay in the old time and do not think of language economy.



1. Language Economy

I am very sure that 5 decades ago, you never heard of the term called Language economy, but now, as you search the internet, you can see the research on the language economy.

You are right, learning Esperanto is easier than English or other languages. Time is money. If you have to spend 10 years to learn a language and spend a year of learning a language, which is more economical ?

Perhaps, you do not learn a second language thus you do not know how life is as to learn 2 languages at school. In my case, I learnt 3 languages in the school.   What the time for the third language is almost sufficient for me to learn another skill, like painting, singing, swimming etc. Well, perhaps, you might want to ask what are the 3 languages I did when I was a young lad. They are my first language, Chinese, national language, Malay and third language English. Well, my mother tongue is Min Nan Yu 闽南语 which is totally different from Pu Tong Hua. Min Nan Yu has almost 2 thousand years history in China.

By now, you can see why China cannot get Nobel Science prize because the scientists have to struggle with the English language. But on the other hand, Japanese scientists have the translated materials in Japanese thus they can put more time into their research.

2. Language equality.

As a non native speaker of English, I will not be able to speak and write as good as the native speaker, especially I am thus far away from the English speaking countries. All the learning of English language is just mimic only. On the other hand, Americans, British do not learn the second language, and you save up tons of dollars and pound and sterling.

The short talk of Prof Giridhar Rao should clear you doubts in Esperanto. Of course, if you are a rational person, you will not be arguing whether Esperanto is failed or succeed. If you are not ego, you will accept to learn the second language to be fair to other people in the world.
