Redefine the role of Esperanto on International Literacy Day

Many countries try to cover up the dirt in their countries for denying the actual illiteracy rate.

Going to school for a day and drop out the next day does not reflect that the country has achieved the high literacy rate.

The International Literacy Day theme for 2017 is Literacy in the digital world.

Yes, we are in the digital age but still many places in the world are not able to use the modern technology due to the infrastrutures in the country.

Able to read and write in a language will enhance learning the next language rapidly especially Esperanto has the springboard effect in the language learning as the British research has shown that.

UNESCO reminds each and everyone on the International Literacy Day, but alas, many still in the world of darkness without ablility to read and write.

Learning Esperanto needs less than 200 hours. That means within six months of learning Esperanto, a person, a child or an adult is able to communicate with the world.

Many people think that learning the national language is important. Yes, no doubt, it is a responsibilty to do so. But what are the languages can be learnt within 200 hours or 6 months ?

After learning Esperanto, the citizens go to learn the national languages and mother tongue as well. This has no conflict of the education system if the country is unable to support the infrastructure to the people who live in the far-reaching area.

UNESCO and UNWTO recommended Esperanto since 1954 but alas, many world leaders, of course the countries as well, did not respect the resolution of UNESCO.

Besides, the NGO in the world should use this opportunity to think why your organisation does not respect the UNESCO 1985 resolution to use Esperanto globly especially the World Federetion of United Nations Associations, which passed the resolution in its association to use Esperanto but till today the promise is noid and void.

It is high time on this day that we consider the new aspect of language teaching and learning. The United Nations sustainable development could be success or not, it depends greatly on the NGOs to respect the UNESCO resolution.

Twitter this message to your friends and NGO you are in. Facebook link to the NGOs you are in and your country leaders.

In particularly, the World Fedearation of United Nations Associations, please relook into your past resolution and realise the resolution in 1979.
