Lacking tutors, a village in South Tangerang, Banten has called on volunteers to help empower locals by teaching them English.
The village, called Kampung Konservasi Rimbun (Rimbun conservation village) in Buaran, Serpong, was founded by Gusri Effendi and his son, Alfan, to provide English lessons to people in the surrounding area, particularly students. They want to emulate the success of Pare village in Kediri, East Java.
However, the village only has five tutors to assist the students.
Set to kick off on Nov. 5, it would accommodate 51 students living close to the conservation village.
"The number of volunteers is expected to reach eight people in the future. Currently, we only have five confirmed tutors,” said Alfan, the cofounder of the English-learning program in the village, as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.
