Don't trust the figure

Every time I read about the language prefer by the European countries, I felt like I have been cheated again and again by the writers or the administors of the countries.

The reports are being quoted over and over again, just as how many Esperanto speakers in the world and the standard answer is 200 million.

The report of the prefer language in the European countries are usually the English language, and this language sometimes can be the 1st place of all other languages.

I did chat with few teens from Italy, Poland, France etc, of course, they are the Esperanto speakers, they learnt it by themselves as the schools did not have Esperanto class.

I usually asked them, " If the school offers you the Esperanto course, will you take it ? "

I am asking a silly question, isn't it ?

It was because I asked them where did they learn esperanto.

Most of them said they were forced to learn English, if not would be  French, German etc, the European languages.

Here come the writer, using the statistic and quoting English is the major language.

I can feel that way as Malaysia is also a country which leave no chance for the pupils to choose a language that they like.

Surprised me more is Poland. It is not opening for the school children to choose Esperanto as a language but rather they have to go to the club to learn it.

I think Poland is worse than Burundi which has more than 20 schools which are teaching Esperanto.

Thus, don't trust the statistics by the government, there is not fairness for the people to choose the language that they, people like.

  1. 200 miliono da esperantistoj? Ho! Mi kredis ke la nombro estis ĉirkaŭ 2 miliono! Ĉu vi certas pri ĉi-fakto?

200 million Esperantists? Wow! I thought that the number was closer to 2 million! Are you sure about this fact?

  2. Thanks for the info.

But I think it is more than amount. No one can count the head of esperanto speakers, can you ? As long as there is accesible to the internet, there are learners of Esperanto. I am one of them. Besides, I am initiating learning through the net like lernu or kurso.com.br.

In the past, it might be true to the method, but now, the cyber age, skype, msn chat etc can spread the message of Esperanto in millions in a day. Don't you agree. I think someone has to take this message down from the wikipedia
