Southe East Asia is the largest group of English language speakers

South East Asia has the largest number of English speakers. Do you agree ?
Well, you can find the data of it  at  2.04 minutes of this short film.

I did not know how and where they derived the data. As a member of South East Asia, I did not agree to that. If the data is true, it is showing English is not as what the net data said it has billion of speakers.

Now, let me tell you why ASEAN or South East Asia is not the largest number of English language speakers. Let us start from the northern part of the region, Mynnarma, Thailand. Despite the countries are teaching English in the schools, the people don't able to communicate in English if they are not in the tourist areas. It goes to the Loas, Vietnam and Khemer or Cambodia.

Next is Malaysia which has slightly largest number of English language speakers due to the pressure from the government, many talents are killed,of course. For students who did not pass the English language test, they are not able to graduate and many firms are employing staff who can write and speak English. But unfortunately, you could hardly find many to the fluency standard if you do not consider the Manglish.

We in Malaysia still still our mother tongue language. When we need to go to official function and certain government department, we speak Malay. But the revenue department would have many other language speakers to help you if you cannot speak Malay.

Thus English is not functioning at all. To me, though, I need to do research and write blog, it may consume my time of one or two hours the most a day. The rest is in my mother tongue and local dialects.

Singapore is the main area where English is spoken, of course with Singlish too. This country has only 4 million people and with almost half of the population are the migrate workers. Do I have to tell you more ?

Down to Indonesia and East Timor, which soon will be a member of ASEAN organisation, they teach English, demanding passing to the English language test, but the people do not use it daily and fluently. The last country is Brunei Darulsalam, despite conducting O level examination for the secondary school leavers, many people still cannot control English especially the rural areas and those who cannot afford to travel.

Yes, if you do not have the chance to travel out of your country, you don't know the problem of communication.

Finally, I invite you to tell me, how the data is derived that South East Asia is the largest number of speakers of English ? If not the United Kingdom and United States of America ?
